BG lists concert schedule PDF Print E-mail Written by Sentinel-Tribune Staff Saturday, 30 November 2013 09:12 The Bowling Green Schools Orchestra program will present two Holiday Orchestra concerts during the first week of December. The first concert is on Tuesday which features 176 string players comprising the fifth-grade beginner orchestra, the sixth-grade middle school orchestra and seventh-grade middle schools orchestra. The younger orchestra students have prepared several holiday favorites as well as traditional orchestra literature. The second concert is on Thursday and features the eighth-grade orchestra and Bowling Green High School orchestra. The eighth-grade orchestra will perform music from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” and a collection of fiddle tunes that were popular during the time that Charles Dickens wrote “A Christmas Carol” titled “Fiddle like the Dickens.”. “Dickens” features eighth-grade orchestra students Alex Munson, Jesse He, Elaine Hudson, Jack Hanus and Sofia Calderon. The high school orchestra will perform a piece titled “Ice Sculptures” written by Brian Balmages, featuring BGHS sophomore Grace O’Hare on piano and BGHS senior Gramm Drennen on cello. Also on this program is Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” The concert concludes with the orchestra adding electric guitars, electric violin, electric bass and drumset to perform music by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra music is performed to special lighting effects designed by BGHS junior Drake Doren and BGCS Performing Arts Center Technical Director Carmen Rowlands. Both concerts begin at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center and are free and open to the public.
