so, most of our generation and those before grew up playing cops and robbers and cowboys and indians (not known as native americans then)...we fell on playgrounds made of cement or macadam and didnt die, got spanked at least until we were out of grade school, our parents believed the teachers and we were punished both at school and at home, we were expected to be in church on sunday mornings and everyone home for family dinner at least on the weekends, we may have told bad jokes and cursed occasionally, but we did not use curse words in our everyday language, we respected our elders whether we liked them or not, we did what we were told without expecting an explanation for everything and we are not the generations that have perpetrated most of these horrible school shootings. We now have kids that feel they are owed everything for doing nothing, that they do not have to respect anyone but that they should be respected by everyone, kids that think f#$k and s#%t are everyday words to be used like we use the word THE in every sentence. Most dont go to church because they dont feel like it and their parents say awwe, thats ok. They hear their parents talk about what jerks and idiots policemen, politicians, teachers, preachers and etc are instead of teaching them to judge all people in all walks of life on an individual basis. We give them plastic playhouses on playgrounds and take down the slides and swings and merry-go-rounds cuz they might get hurt. When a teacher dares to yell at them, we pat them on the head and go to battle with the mean teacher who wanted them to sit down and shut up so the teacher could teach. We want to make sure that every kid is picked for kickball and that nobody gets the ball thrown at them in dodgeball. Nobody punishes their kids because they want to be friends and it might hurt their little self esteem bottoms. Then they dont understand why the world revolves around them, or how to handle problems and bullies and bad people. They think they are the center of the universe and dont know how to act or react when they are not. They cannot solve problems both in school or after school. They cannot even play as children, innocent and silly because WE know what they Really mean and we have zero tolerance for Pop Tarts and bad guys and anyone that makes our little angels take responsibility for their own actions and reactions. Then we wonder why they shoot up schools. So, feeling guilty and KNOWING we have created monsters...we make stupid laws and take away more of their childhood because we cannot take responsibility ourselves for our own stupid and dangerous actions and reactions. Heaven help us when this next generation grows up for they will be the monsters of the monsters we have created.
