so on monday, at around 8 in the morning, I am running a PPGIS (Public Participation Geographic Information Systems) data collection event as part of a series of workshops leading up the URISA (Urban & Regional Information Systems Association) GIS-PRO annual convention which starts next week. Forty or so GIS professionals from around the world actually signed up for this thing and, along with residents, will be using maps and data collection forms I created to build a baseline data set that can be used to measure changes in property and street conditions in the eight blocks surrounding the elementary school in my neighborhood. I have spent pretty much all of 2014 working on setting this thing up and at this point, I cant wait for it to be over. Then I can finish my streetlight project. And my final semester of school. And because Im feeling pretty proud of myself right now; not so bad for a guy who moved to New Orleans five years and four days ago on borrowed money with everything I owned in the back of a uhaul.
