solace at walgreens Yesterday, I walked up to the prescription counter at the Walgreens at 7th St and Glendale in Phoenix. I handed the girl behind the counter a court order that named me as the executor of my mothers estate. I needed to pick up the total amount that my mother had paid -- a lot -- in prescriptions for 2013 for the estate income taxes. The girl behind the counter took one look at the name on the order. Oh no! No! She was such a dear sweet lady. I forced a smile and nodded. She looked me in the eyes and said, I feel like I just talked to her I looked back at her and said Me, too We stared at each other for about 10 seconds. Neither one of us could speak. That came out of nowhere. I got instantly quite emotional. What she said and how she said it. And her kindness. I felt like I was hit by a baseball bat. As bitter as it was sweet. A taste of humanity and sweetness at Walgreens next to the cold medicines.
