some films exist as parts of a particular era. they seem connected to it, with any attempt to take them away from that, dilluting their very essence, their atmosphere, air and soul. John Carpenters Escape from New York is a classic example of such a film. a clunky, but enjoyable future vision of a world gone apeshit, with a fantastic cinematic character in the middle of it all. Re-booting such a gem is as depressing as it is infuriating. re-vamp, re-model, re-launch. its desperation disguised as a sign of respect. the only good thing to come out of it, will be John Carpenter getting an executive producing credit, which means hell get paid.
