some more THIS AND THAT Each and all of these items appeal to me in some way. Perhaps in some cases through a stretch? 1) the first 5 items were all found in local flea markets and are: a) a sad eyed white horse with a sticker on its side that says Souvenir of Joplin. 1950s? b) a cabin that once housed Missouri Ozark Made Country Sorghum appox.---one pound. By the time I got the container it had been emptied!! 1960s? (on the bottom it says made in Japan.) c) an ash tray with a photo of Lake Taneycomo at Branson. 1930s- 40s d) a small savings bank in the shape of a barrel issued by Republic State Bank, Republic, Mo.----someone may know the decade? e) an Ozarks primitive stick cut so that a miniature one man saw could be inserted into it. Written in white ink on the log are the words Shepherd of the Hills. Perhaps 1950 era? Did your grandpa create this? I have scanned the ash tray so you could better see the nice photo----I was excited about getting this item for only a very few dollars. The first issue of the TV series Hee Haw Comic book which was issued in 1970. There were only a total of 7 in the series before the concept was pulled. Of the stars on the cover only Roy Clark and Lula Roman are still around. Lula was born in Dallas in 1946. Google Lula Roman At Last You Tube. and enjoy her singing an excellent version of the old Glenn Miller----Etta James classic At Last. I collect paper things about as much as I do recordings, so I couldnt pass up this little Alumni Review--Southwest Missouri State College. Dated January 1965, I graduated from Nixa that spring and began my college career at SMS (MSU) in August of 65 while Dr. Arthur Mallory was still in his first year as president of the college, and would remain until 1971. (he is pictured on this cover). While walking from one class to another and from one building to another I would sometimes see Dr. Mallory here and there. But I certainly did not go up and say howdy there friend----I am from Nixie---how do you like your job. BUT when I was the Clever High Principal a decade later, Dr. Mallory came to Clever to give the Senior Commencement address one spring evening. By then he was the Missouri Commissioner of Education!! Clever was able to get him for the address because he had known educator and coach Mr. Marion Kerr of Clever since they attended SMS together in the early 1950s. I was impressed with Dr. Mallory that evening. And then from time to time while taking calls on my radio shows----asking for feedback about how I was doing on KTXR-FM, Dr. Mallory called me a number of times offering nothing but words of encouragement. I hope he and his family are doing well as we approach the new 2015.
