Kenny Burrell is best known for his work as a sideman, and hes fully capable of playing complicated music, but his playing is elemental here. It is some of his most resourceful too, because the changes are relatively simple. quietly genius, expertly mellow...i consider it a definitive record for many reasons, most notably jazz guitar tone, and true, deep soul feel. Not to mention Rudy Van Gelder engineering makes this record sound a lot fresher than 1963. Unbelievable.
