speedway.net.au/release.asp?NewsId=51102#.VJfpUF4AKA WINS TO A NATIONAL LEGEND & CLUB VETERAN HIGHLIGHTS AT LEETON Speedway fans from right across the Riverina, Canberra & from as far down as Melbourne enjoyed a wonderful night of dirt track action on Saturday night the 20th of December with Production Sedans, Sports Sedans & Speedway Legend Cars amongst the feature races & whilst these races produced great displays it was local veteran Mick Pettit who stole the show by winning his first feature race at Brobenah Raceway in 25 years! Victorian Stephen Laidlaw, a two time Australian Champion in Production Sedans was too good in a tight battle with Albury’s Rodney Anderson winning the Kevjoy Racing Christmas Cup with Leetons own Justin Hawkins finishing in second place after getting past Anderson afer Anderson ploughed through top end grass. Laidlaw was the fastest competing driver all the night clocking well over 175kmph down the tracks back straight. The Canberra owned Speedway Legend Cars Australia were on street display in town Friday & Saturday nights generating lots if interest from the public in their division & the speedway club and they were very popular amongst the crowd enjoying the Yamaha powered division. Mick Hebditch in a series of demonstration events crossed the line first every time including the feature length event. In most events Hebditch was five seconds ahead of everybody else at the finish line with Rick Christy, Bryan Neal & Paul Opray challenging, Hebditch finished ahead of Christy & Neal at the end of the night Aylett Automotive supported evening. In the Victorian Sports Sedans Climate Technologies Stampede Rhys Collins from Mount Beauty Victoria was the pre event favourite & after a huge win in the first heat where he was almost 2 seconds a lap quicker then the rest of the field, he found himself penalised two positions at the finish in the second heat due to rough passing then second in the next heat & out raced in the last heat. Collins then went on in the final to be too good for Wagga racer Charlie Ball & Victorian James Powell. Crowd favourite for the night was Mick Pettit who got the night kick started with a win in the first heat of the night for Goulburn Oven Sedans with a 4 second margin over second place. Four different heat race winners showed the fans how competitive the division is when Corowas Ross Maclean, Leeton raised Mitch Watts & Waggas Paul Barklem won the other heat events. Pettit was well aware of his last feature win being 25 years ago and the crowd was soon made aware and support grew for the local. Challenged by Corowas Dave Walton all the way, Pettit held his nerve over twelve laps to win the Ace Smash Repairs supported final by .6 of a second from Walton, Scott Callander, division champion Wayne Williams & Barklem. Finally completing all the results, Warrick Howie won all four heats in the Narradera Auto Wreckers Standard Saloon Rumble division with Wangarattas Stuart Densem in second place ahead of Kim Eames finishing in the minor places in the final behind Howie.
