ssi70 BPL Notebook: Round 23 Follow-up (31/02/14) Game . . . [ Predicted Score ; Actual Score ] Liverpool v Everton [ 2-1 ; 4-0 ] … ManU v Cardiff [ 3-0 ; 2-0 ] Southampton v Arsenal [ 0-2; 2-2 ] …Chelsea v West Ham [ 3-1 ; 0-0 ] Tottenham v ManCity [ 2-1; 1-5 ] Rd 23 Score: 2.5/10 ….. (Cumulative score 79.5/173: 46.0%) Everton seemed dazed by the pace of the Liverpool counter-attacks, and never really danced in this particular derby. ManU was efficient, but less dominant than expected in their 2-0 victory. Arsenal was extremely lethargic in the first half; and was completely outplayed by a skillful, speedy and spirited Southampton. The Gunners picked up their pace in the second half; but couldnt defuse their opponent’s momentum. Credit to the Saints, and their star of the night, Lallana. Truth be told, a group of determined, decent players using a park-the-bus strategy can hold even the 1970 Brazilians scoreless with a bit of luck. West Ham used that strategy on the night and had the lady on their side − hence their 0-0 dream result v Chelsea. I’ve said this before: City has the most gifted side in all of Europe; and the potential to score big, even against the best teams. I remain convinced, however, that they tend to play erratically when under pressure. Thus, I reasoned that a fluent Spurs playing at home was a good bet for the win. Obviously, their cause was not helped by: the early goal conceded; the waving off of their equalizing goal; the untimely injury to Dembele; the shocking dismal of Rose; and the gratuitous penalty awarded.
