st maarten On Thursday May 1st, 2014 between 9:00 and 9:30pm, the Police Central Dispatch received a report from a police and detective patrol in the Simpson Bay and Pelican area that they were in pursuit of a white car with four persons in it. The driver and the vehicle in question were identified by witnesses as being involved in numerous break-ins at different locations on the island during the carnival season. The suspects were then removed from the vehicle. This is when the investigating officers noticed that the driver and the female passenger were wounded. The bullet grazed the side of drivers ear and head and then hit the female victim in her left upper arm. Both suspects were treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The area was immediately closed off to allow the Forensic Department to collect evidence and conduct an investigation. Both suspects were released from the medical center because their injuries are not serious. They remain in custody for further investigation. The injured officer was also treated at the medical center and is on inactive duty due to the injuries he sustained. The vehicle in question has been confiscated and the investigation is ongoing.
