She tossed Snowflake like garbage and threw [the dog] out the window, then went out and bought a new puppy, the prosecution alleged during Alsu Ivanchenkos arraignment in Criminal Court in Stapleton Wednesday evening. The defendant has no remorse and no respect for that dog. According to the criminal complaint, Ms. Ivanchenko told police, Just give me my misdemeanor so I can get out of here. Its just a dog. Ms. Ivancheko, 34, admitted in court documents that she couldnt afford medical treatment for the 3-month-old Maltese-Shih Tzu mix, who she named Snowflake, so she put the little dog in a bag and threw the injured animal from her car onto the side of the road in Bay Terrace on Friday. The dog was renamed Charlotte after being rescued Friday. I was afraid for my daughter to get upset, so I got her a new dog, Ms. Ivanchenko says in the criminal complaint. But during court proceedings Wednesday, Ms. Ivanchenkos lawyer told the judge that the defendant denies that she bought a new dog. She does feel remorse, the defense attorney told the court. Ms. Ivanchenko, police said, intentionally injured the animal and abandoned its body beside Bay Terrace Boulevard, at the corner of Hopkins Avenue and South Railroad Avenue. Dr. Robert Reisman of the ASPCA said he examined Charlotte and determined she had a fractured skull, a fractured femur and brain trauma resulting from blunt force impact, according to court documents. The prosecution asked for $20,000 bail, and said Ms. Ivanchenko is unemployed and her house is in foreclosure. Judge Alan J. Meyer set bail at $3,500. A man who identified himself as Ms. Ivanchenkos friend was attempting to get the cash to bail her out, but it was not clear if she made bail. He declined comment for the story. Ms. Ivanchenkos attorney also declined comment. She is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, torturing and injuring animals and abandonment, police said. Ms. Ivanchenko is scheduled to return to court Sept. 22 silive/news/index.ssf/2014/09/bay_terrace_woman_bought_a_new.html Bay Terrace woman arrested in connection with the severely injured puppy left for dead in a shopping bag, police say silive/eastshore/index.ssf/2014/09/bay_terrace_woman_arrested_in.html#incart_breaking STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Bay Terrace woman is accused of several horrendous acts of animal cruelty in connection with the severely injured puppy found in a shopping bag on Staten Island Friday, police said. The dog owner, Alsu Ivanchenko, 34, of the 3400 block of Hylan Boulevard, was arrested 10:30 a.m. Tuesday after she was brought in for questioning at the 122nd Precinct stationhouse in New Dorp, authorities said. Ms. Ivanchenko was charged with several animal cruelty acts, including torture, not feeding the animal and abandonment, police said. As of Tuesday afternoon, she was in a holding cell at the 120 Precinct station house, according to a law enforcement source. The 3-month-old Maltese Shih Tzu, whose real name is Snowflake, is being taken care of by the ASPCA and remains in critical condition with severe head trauma. Per our partnership with the NYPD, the ASPCA is involved with this case, ASPCA said in a statement to the Advance on Tuesday afternoon. The dog has sustained very substantial injuries. She is being provided with medical care, and we are continuing to monitor her progress closely. As this is an active NYPD investigation, we cannot say more at this time. However, we encourage anyone with possible details in this case to please step forward and report this information to the NYPD. The puppy, which was named Charlotte by doctors, has fractures to her skull and right leg, and is currently blind from her injuries, according to Courtney Bellew, who runs the Special Needs Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Northeast (SNARR). Despite her initial prognosis, doctors at South Shore Animal Hospital in New Dorp, where the dog was originally being treated, told Ms. Bellew that Charlotte had shown signs of improvement over a 24-hour period. She went from basically being comatose to responding when you would talk to her, Ms. Bellew said. The puppy was first discovered Friday night by a group of Good Samaritans, inside a plastic shopping bag in the weeds near the Staten Island Railway tracks at Hopkins and South Railroad avenues in Bay Terrace.
