steve hillMarch 13 Delight in the Lord To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27 Isaac Barrow (1630-1705) said, “Praise and thanksgiving are the most delectable business of heaven; and God grant they may be our greatest delight, our most frequent employment upon earth!” Consider further, the admonition of F. B. Meyer: We must not spend all our lives in cleaning our windows or in considering whether they are clean, but in sunning ourselves in God’s blessed light. That light will soon show us what still needs to be cleansed away and will enable us to cleanse it with unerring accuracy. Our Lord Jesus is a perfect reservoir of everything the soul of man requires for a blessed and holy life. To make much of Him, to abide in Him, to draw from Him, to receive each moment from His fullness is, therefore, the only condition of soul-health. But to be more concerned with self than with Him is like spending much time and thought over the senses of the body (sight, taste, touch, smell, hearing), and never using them for the purpose of receiving impressions from the world outside. Look often to Jesus. Delight thyself in the Lord. All joy and reason for being lies in the first part of our text: Delight thyself in the Lord. Far too often we place more value on the latter part—the desires of our heart. Guard yourself today and always, that you may be found in “the most delectable business of heaven.”
