#stlwx #mowx #ilwx #stl Late Night Severe Weather Event Expected Tonight An intense line of thunderstorms continues to organize over northwest Missouri and will rapidly progress southeast into our viewing area between 1130pm and 4am…see maps for more detailed timing. These storms will bring along a significant damaging wind threat with widespread 60-75 mph wind gusts possible. In addition, the wind field in the atmosphere supports the potential for quick leading edge tornado development. This would most likely be short-lived and rapidly develop and dissipate which will make them difficult to get warnings out in advance. The region most likely to see these would be roughly from Columbia MO into the STL area. Because these storms will be moving rapidly, there may not be much advance thunder and/or lightning to wake you ahead of the storms arrival. If you have a weather radio, this is a night to keep them turned on and ready to alert. In addition to the strong wind potential, there will be very intense lightning and tropical downpours that could cause some quick & brief flash flooding and/or street flooding. However, the rapid movement of the storms may help to mitigate the overall flash flood threat. Some hail of 1-2” in diameter will be possible…although the damaging winds will be the greater threat.
