stories etc # 101 baseball sooo i went to queen of peace catholic school as a kid...we all did... lots of stories from those days and some of em i can even tell...others, well, some stuff needs to stay in the past... we had lousy sports teams there..e to think of it, most of my life i spent on lousy sports teams...well, in college the powerlifting team i was on won a national championship but other than that, pretty lousy sports teams for the most part....one team was actually pretty good but i played a very minor role on that team...i played 2nd base in 6th grade on our 8th grade baseball team...in retrospect i really dont know why I made that team, maybe there werent that many boys trying out for the team, cause i can assure you it wasnt for my baseball playing prowess...i wasnt very good in baseball ever and worse in basketball (although i really liked basketball, but i sucked)...in high school i was a pretty decent football player but it was really big fish little pond kinda story...and besides back then i was able to make up for my lack of athletic skills with tenacity and go for it,,,(besides they gave you a helmet and pads and applauded you when you hit people---seemed like a perfect fit at the time)....but baseball and basketball required skills and i wasnt so skilled...regardless, and for whatever reason i was on that team with my older brother Michael....Michael, if i recall, played short stop on that team...he was in 8th grade.. i do remember my coach loaning me his glove cause mine was a little kid glove from my pee wee baseball days....his glove seemed huge but surely worked better at knocking down balls at second base...i do remember how cool it was for me to turn a double play when a ball was hit to my brother or me...in games it was just like we had played a hundred times in our side yard... on that team, if i recall, was allen Elliott and johnny carraba (Johnny was known for being funny back then and believe me, none of us would have ever figured he would do so well in the restaurant business).and mark patronella and greg georlich and others...I remember being so bad at hitting that I was always crowding the plate and leaning into pitches so I would get hit and get a free base..well, almost free, there was a bit of a sting to pay...
