#summer Why did it rain on my picnic, wedding, or outdoor event? - TopicsExpress

#summer Why did it rain on my picnic, wedding, or outdoor event? You may ask this question over the coming months. During the summer months when you hear there is a 10% or 20% chance of rain it means that precipitation will likely fall somewhere in our local counties. A 10%-20% means that thunderstorms are not anticipated to be widespread in nature. But, it does not mean it wont rain. :) A typical summer pattern requires a 10%-20% chance of thunderstorms, based on climatology. Keep in mind that there are occasions when the atmosphere is 100% capped off - meaning air parcel updrafts cant break through the warm later of air aloft. Thus, no storms will form. So when you hear there is a 10%-20% chance of thunderstorms that does not mean it wont rain. Dont cuss the weatherman. It just means that the odds are more in your favor that it wont rain at your location. But, there will always be some lucky fellow that ends up soaked.
