This morning, after months of back and forth — and a recent flare-up in controversy — the Kunstmuseum Bern announced that it will indeed accept the 1,300-work collection of the late Cornelius Gurlitt, though the 400 to 500 pieces therein suspected of being looted by Nazis will remain in Germany while the museum makes provisions to determine their rightful ownership. “This is an opportunity for the Swiss to stand up and do the right thing and set example for other countries in Europe,” Greg Schneider, executive vice president of the Jewish Claims Conference, told the New York Times.
