tHANK God.. Our weather has YET to Be Nothing Like This!!! On December 3rd of 1986 a super typhoon wiped out the Northern Mariana Islands in the pacific. Once I remembered the sky had been angry for nearly two days. The wind lashed horrifying sounds, which made the windows breathe of our home looking as if it had a life of its own. Blaring even after plywood that served as shutters had been mounted over the windows and interlaced duck taped over tempered glass in case of a shatter. It was a frightening sound- almost ear piercing. The sounds of woos and booms, shatters and clatters, clinks and clunks, and cracks. Luckily I was blessed with a concrete home. Other homes made of wood and tin and louver windows substantial flooding came through forcing a number of families for an immediate evacuation. Lightening flashed in a split second leaving a scar in the sky followed by crackling thunder, blinding heavy rains that came down sideways each time the wind picked up tapping hard on the glass windows and next thing would happen, an abrupt spark followed by a loud burst of explosion from blown out power transformers - a sudden island black out. Prior to being more excited than scared at first when we lost power, we were also disconnected from our local radio station that broadcast the weather. I had become petrified only until grandmother Lia held a prayer leaflet and a rosary in her hands mumbling through her lips, concentrating on the words. As she did this, i remember you could smell the scent of lit kerosene lantern, my mother holding Liz, pleading for my dad to anticipate the latest warning advisory and searching for reassurance that we were going to be fine. Recognizing the fear in my mother’s voice, my siblings and I knew enough to sit still and be in our best behavior. Chapter 4- EIPRMF
