ten years ago I bought a railway ticket to take me down the west coast of Sri Lanka on the 1030 train to Galle, on Boxing Day. My traveling companion wondered whether I could get the earlier 0830 to give me more time at the far end to explore, before sun down. Ive never been a morning person and I decided on the later train. That probably saved my life: the earlier train was washed away by the Tsunami in the worlds worst train disaster. I sometimes forget to cherish the days Ive had since and the people whove made them special. My New Years resolution is to be much more mindful and to live in the moment.
