thankful to be here - as i remember this anniversary- 47 years ago today, our amazing hosptial ship-USS SANCTUARY ,AH-17 (resurrected from WW2, and we were the nucleus crew that outfitted her in new orleans) , went on line and active in vietnam. we had prepared for months, from new orleans, through the panama canal, up to san diego, over to hawaii for a half day to refuel, and there we were ,finally, to do our job. no time was wasted on the new guys,as we received burnt men from incendiary devices, tank operators - burns were horrific wounds - in a special class - and it was a chaotic, memorable day in our surgery units. often think of all the patients we worked on, and on today, i especially think of them all, and wonder how they are doing - and wish for their health. very thankful to just be here to remember. as i age, i am increasingly so proud to have been a navy corpsman, operating room technician on that ship, and of what we accomplished.
