#thankyoucityofPlano. #Luke137. #moremarathontraining Plano Balloon Festival Race Recap: Today I combined more of my training with my half mary. My first twenty miler. I was ready! I was especially excited about seeing the hot air balloons in the air during the race. The alarm went off at crazy oclock and I was pounding the pavement right before 4am for seven miles. I had all my race things ready the night before but I wanted to make sure I had time to soak my feet in ice water before leaving for the race. Its made a huge difference in my recovery to soak them after every run and roll them over an ice bottle in the evening. I have very little pain in my feet now. The weather was pleasant and clear but I knew it was going to warm up. The race started on time at 730am and off I went, as did one of the hot air balloons. Mind you I had already ran 7 miles so my mind was stuck on completing 20 miles. The course was scenic, flat and winding with a few long inclines, and it ran through neighborhoods and the park. The water stations were on both sides of the road but good thing I carried my own Nuun. I forgot my fuel belt but thank God there was a guy passing out Gu at mile 8, which was my mile 15. I savored it and what a world of difference it made! Come mile 9 (or my 16) I had to stop and stretch the glutes and hammies. I was pacing negative splits but I was ok with slowing down to walk. It was really warming up and I was dumping water on my head at every water station. The finish was near and I was feeling good. I loved seeing the hot air balloons along the course. Glenn took some real good pictures and he let me use them in this recap. My face was beaming as I neared the finish line. I finished in 2:20 and I completed running twenty miles for the first time in my life!! The post race swag was full of vendors for the balloon festival. There was a full breakfast for all the runners and other free stuff. We walked around to look at things then we headed back to the car. I had packed some water and ice to soak my feet on the way home. My feet were hot and that ice water felt so good.
