The prime-time special aired Sunday exactly 50 years to the day and time of the bands debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, when a record 73 million tuned in to see the Fab Four perform live. The all-star Grammy special averaged 13.95 million viewers, peaking at 14.8 million in the final half hour. Its a modest audience next to the untouchable Beatles milestone but impressive considering the show was up against the Olympics and the winter premiere of The Walking Dead. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr top a lineup that includes such Beatles admirers as Stevie Wonder, Dave Grohl and Katy Perry turning in takes on tunes from Something to Revolution. Bassist Don Was leads a house band that includes Kenny Aronoff on drums, Lenny Castro on percussion, Chris Caswell and Greg Phillinganes on keyboards, Peter Frampton and Steve Lukather on guitars, and Rami Jaffi on organ.
