the Jewish temples significance. why has biblical endtime scholars so interested in the third temple. For one thing Jesus starts his Olivet discourse of Matthew 24 with His own Words saying that not one stone will be left upon another. He spoke about the second temple that was erected during his days upon the earth to be broken down. This second temple was torn down in 70 AD by the romans when they attacked Jerusalem. During this time the church was being severely persecuted, all of the apostles that walked with Jesus were martyer except for John the revelator. John was sent to the isle of patmos was given a vision of what is to happen during the time I believe we are living. After Johns exile from patmos he became the overseer of the 7 churches that God sent his message to we know revelation was written around 95 AD. So John the Overseer of the churches knew the temple of God in Jerusalem was torn down but yet he preached to them that an angel gave him a measuring reed and told him to measure the temple of God.(see revelation 11). from 70 AD to today there has no temple been built on the temple mount but today the Israel Government is giving the temple institute subsidies and it seems we will see the famed 3rd temple built in our lifetime. in this temple the antichrist will be revealed to the whole earth because it is written he will put a stop to animal sacrifices that will start up again. I dont believe we need to sacrifice animals but the some strict jews do and want to practice there faith. in this temple Antichrist will claim his God and apparently he will decree the mark of the beast on that day. that is the significance of the temple of God. It will be used again for a place of worship when Jesus comes because the feast of tabernacles will once again celebrated after the 42 months have passed from the abomination of desolation.
