the United State will not defeat ISIS unless it is able to vent the Sunni anger/depression in the Middle East in a different direction. ISIS is moving fast and producing fast results to Sunnis much better results than Al Qaeda has ever done. It is more organized, wealthier, with clear vision and statehood of a Caliphate, and recruiting from all over the world in record numbers, young men field with rage. Why? Lets go back, in 1979 the Iranian revolution overthrew the moderate shah and established a Shia theocracy, dramatically increasing the Shia Islam was of life, in the region, to counter this, Iraqs Saddam Hussein (the only true Sunni dictator) with our blessings, went to an 8 year war with Iran, which was nothing but an organized war between Shia and Sunni. So let us look at the region per country and how the Sunni anger came about in the form of ISIS: Iran: Shia theocracy- Sunni anger goes up dramatically Syria: Sunni majority with a Shia dictator Al Assad in power - Sunni anger present Jordan: Sunni majority with, a royal family friendly with the west in power - Sunni anger present. Arabian Peninsula (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, etc..) Sunni majority with a royal family friendly with the west in power- Sunni anger present (remember this is the anger that gave birth Al Qaeda. Israel: Sunni anger present since 1948 toward Jews Egypt: Sunni majority under west friendly dictator Mubarak- Sunni anger goes up, democratic elections Sunni Muslim Brotherhood takes power, then removed by force by a military dictator General Azizi- Sunni anger goes up dramatically. Iraq: had the only true Sunni dictator who championed the Sunni cause, removed and replaced by a Shia majority- Sunni anger goes up dramatically. Al Qaeda: weakened by elimination of its top brass, and not showing the old dramatic results it used- Sunni anger goes up. Looking at the above you can see how the Sunnis which are the Muslim majority have no more slice of the power in the Middle East, the lose of Islamic balance between Shia and Sunni gave birth to this anger and frustration that fueled the fast rise of ISIS to vent the Sunni imbalance. The core of ISIS is an apocalyptic, extreme, pre-civilized, non-negotiable jihadist ideology. It is a small core, but it was able to channel the Sunni anger vent though it, a massive cloud of other, less extreme Sunnis, is caught in its ideology. Why? because ISIS is the only entity that gives the rest of the Sunnis power, respect, and credibility in the world . For the US, NATO, and the West to be successful, the must destroy the core of ISIS and vent the Sunni anger to power sharing, financial sharing, and equal representation in government participation, in other words, we have to show the Sunnis that their success doesnt have to be apocalyptic to succeed. If we go there just to kill them with spray can/cockroach strategy then it will fail! ISIS must be destroyed on the battle field, the harder is to fix the Sunni pride and have them take a seat at the Middle East round table.
