the World Forum on Human Rights - Nantes May 23, 2013 The workshop on landgrabbing, coordinated by the Lascaux program as part of the World Forum on Human Rights. Time: from 2pm to 5pm on May 23d at the Nantes Events City Center. It is part of the theme Which development and economical model(s) for a world more human and equitable? Sub-theme: access to land, landgrabbing Proposed title: Law and landgrabbing in southern countries : the cases of Benin, Mali, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam and Costa Rica. Issues: Which forms of landgrabbing exist? How land law and investment law allow landgrabbing? Which possible solutions, including legal leads, and wich action paths can be considered to tackle this phenomenon? Objectives: Through five case studies all over the world, five different contexts, researchers, but also civil society representatives who work in the field, will bring their lights on these issues. This workshop, coordinated by the Lascaux Program, will also be the occasion to foster dialogue on the different forms of landgrabbing, their causes and consequences, and the attempts of answer from the civil society. Unlike what could have been said previously, each of you will have 15-20 minutes to present his case study. Then there will be a discussion between the participants and with the public. Presentation of the participants: Benin : Simon Bodea (general secretary of the union Synergie Paysanne) Mali : Alhousseini Diabate (doctorant at the University of Nantes) Papua New Guinea : Frédéric Mousseau (policy director of think tank Oakland Institute) Vietnam : Vu Quoc Ngu, (journalist, Vietnam Panorama) Costa Rica : Edgar Fernandez (researcher at the collegium of Lyon).
