the final nascar flashback driver profile of 2014 looks back at the career of hank parker jr. the native of Denver, north Carolina, began his racing career in go-karts before making the move to race in street stock car racing where he was victorious on seven different occasions. he would then race in late model cars before making his debut in the xfinity series at the homestead-Miami event in late 1997, racing in the #78 mark III financial Chevrolet as he would finish 23rd. in 1998, hank would race for rookie of the year honors with mark III but had horrible luck before racing for his father, hank sr., in the #53 Chevrolet with sponsorship from B.A.S.S. afterwards, he enjoyed moderate success before leaving his family-owned team and racing for cicci-welliver racing beginning in 2001. hank jr.s first career nascar victory came at the auto club speedway in april of that year and he would once more in 2002 at the pikes peak international raceway. the beginning of the end of hank jr.s nascar career started in 2003 as his team, owned by wayne jesel, shut their doors, leaving him without a ride. he would then race in the camping world truck series and xfinity series events off and on during that season. in 2004, hank jr. would race for innovative motorsports in the truck series full-time but despite moderate success with the new team, hank jr. found himself rideless again after the season. his last race in nascar came in june of 2005 as he would race in the #60 roush fenway racing ford at the Nashville superspeedway, substituting for carl Edwards. despite winning the pole for the event, hank jr. finished 20th. in a career that started in 1997 and ended in 2005, hank parker jr. amassed thirty-seven top ten finishes, two victories and two pole awards while racing in a combined 167 races.
