the focus blurs, the tongue slurs, lack of objectivity or not enough strength of character? dragging the heavy cross, too far, smelling the green woods, following the bright star, now desert around, harsh sun up there, mirage beckons, was lie always this unfair? perceptions change with increasing dead weight, the cross could be holy, and giving it up ain a sign of hate, travel alone, travel fast, in this desert if I want to last, no fun in letting the sun have its way, no shadow, no water, and not a word the cross would say, is it waiting for me to fail and fall, so that it could stand on me, erect and tall?
