the last few weeks of Tys life Ive been replaying. 2 weeks before I took him to a rehab/holistic vet an hour away, he was eating well and poops were great he just wasnt himself. Ive missed a few signs but basically, he would ask to go out then turn back in, but it was really cold, he peed on the deck, he wouldnt come to my room at bed time, he would need to be encouraged to come eat, but would eat most within an hour, which was often his norm.. At the vets we did blood work, 2 sets of x rays, urine sample, she said he had a very enlarged spleen and we needed an ultra sound but the person to do it wasnt there and wed do it at next appt. A few days later, Sat morning, I got an urgent call from her to take him in immediately to his local vet and he would need IV fluids and antibiotics as liver and kidney function was impaired, ALT and Creatinin were high, and spleen too large . My vets admitted him and kept him til Mon, levels remained high, U/S showed spleen 4X larger than norm, antibiotics given and he didnt get better. he of course wanted to eat nothing but I managed to get him eating canned and he kept eatting, the day I took him in his behavior was frantic with the licking and being unable to lay down, they had warned me the risk of splenic torsion was high with the spleen so large, so in we went again, spleen was even larger...so I made the decision. Now thinking back, yesterday Stiffler brought me Tys frisbee, he carried it always, he slept with it beside or under him, and I hadnt seen him with it at all...also no morning howls in about a month, we always had them led by Ty...so how long was he really unwell?? Did I miss anything?? I truly believe I did notice as much as possible, trying to explain to first vet that he was just off...not really sick, he never had the runs ever, he never vomitted, he might go off the food but if he ate it all seemed OK Trust your guts, if off, try something
