the name "Palestine" was given to the land of Israel, by the Romans, who intended to uproot the Jews from their land with this act. they named it after the ancient extinct Philistines, who were no Arabs nor Muslims, but European (Balkan / Aegean area) people. Israel was the name of the land of Israel way before Islam was established, and way before the first Arab man ever stepped out of the Arabian peninsula. the name philistines comes from Hebrew, it means: INVADERS. Later on in 1920, the British empire named a geographical name for the area including both Israel and Jordan. the British mandate of Palestine was a Geographical name, just like "Scandinavia", for example. Only in 1964, 16 years after the rebirth of the state of Israel, the Arabs of the former British mandate of Palestine, declared themselves as Palestinians by nationality. (IL Admin)
