there has been a death in the village today. according to tradition, on the thirteenth day the whole village will be invited to a grand feast. it also happens to be the same day my kitchen turns one. looks like my lunch celebrations are cancelled in honor of the departed soul. today is also the last day of the month of Ashada in the hindu calendar. tomorrow starts Shravana, considered to be an auspicious month and the beginning of yet another marriage season. all those who got married in june had to spend the month of Ashada away from each other, Indian traditions can sometimes be such a tease. couples will be reuniting tomorrow, there will be much energy in the air. interestingly, a middle aged couple showed up this afternoon from Venkatagiri, the little town I recently visited when I went to see Jungle Swami. they run a marriage bureau there. hmm.
