there is no social science data that people who join these movements are stupid or nuts poor whites are not the problem. Instead of derision for their ignorance, there should be pity and a resolve to share the wealth. Elites, those with power, have failed to create an equable system. We should hear discussion about cosmopolitan privilege. The upper middle classes and professional elites of the centers should dispense with their facile insults of the peripherals whose exploitation makes possible the extracted surplus that underwrites cosmopolitan living. The have chosen this misdirection -- peasants -- some of our best natural scientists came from rural areas. Cities dont make people smart and rural areas dont make people stupid. What makes people ignorant are the lack of resources and care and the gates that keep out the underprivileged who strive for more. They tell us we are stupid, but when any of us attempts to better ourselves, they deny us the opportunities they hoard for themselves. Privilege is exclusion. There is nothing all that privileged about poor whites. We shouldnt confuse the privilege of colonial masters with skin color. Privilege is land holdings, monies, and access. Rich whites exploit poor whites and youre going to call them both privileged? Its the elites that are privileged -- e.g. the Saudis, warlords, etc (non-white) have more in common with the Bushes than the Bushes have in common with a struggling cattle hand. Privilege isnt white, its gold. Gold privilege. Pedigree privilege. Youre the white ones!
