there was a very successful demonstration by detroit city workers today downtown. over 300 workers came out and picketed the federal courthouse for two hours, then marched to another federal building, protesting emergency finance manager orr’s plan to slash pensions and health care. we chanted “no pensions, no peace” and other slogans. I attended wearing a big sign “postal workers back city workers” and this got a very warm reception. I also distributed 230 or so copies of the detroit workers voice issue denouncing orr’s plan and this was received very warmly too. other groups present were, of course, workers world party, which organized the event, world socialist web site, the single payer group, and a youth group associated with wwp. ours was the only literature that explained the issues involved in the bankruptcy. I also distributed three copies of the latest struggle magazine. attached are some photos of the action.
