theres this logical fallacy that people are popularly peddling - TopicsExpress

theres this logical fallacy that people are popularly peddling that goes like this, Russia/China/Iran/France cant call the United States out on our racism because Russia/China/Iran/France is racist too. this logical fallacy, argumentum ad hominem, is crazysauce for at least three reasons: 1, real recognize real. racist and repressive countries are probably BEST capable of recognizing and calling out other racist and repressive countries. the whole birds of a feather adage. so the fact that the worlds most repressive regime can spot familiarity in Uncle Sam....say WAY MORE about Uncle Sam than those regimes. 2, the personal qualities of the speaker are not, necessarily, related to validity of her speech. the quality of having titties and vaginas dont categorically exclude women from making valid, cogent, and compelling arguments about the nature of men (or their patriarchy or abuse or rape, etc.) and the quality of being a racist country dont necessarily preclude those countries from making valid arguments about the racism of other countries. 3, the quality of Russia/China/Iran/France being racist does not...in any way shape or form...alter the quality, existence, repugnance, or lethality of American racism. France can be racist AND we can be racist too. --and finally, these arguments are weird. cause at their core their nationalist arguments about the exceptionalism of american racism. these arguments....as a condition of them being used....already assume and agree that america is racist AND THEN GOES THE ADDITIONAL STEP of saying that our racism is so exceptional that they other racist countries cant possibly get it. its a defense of american racism from a non-american critique of racism. and instead of arguing on the points of that racism....people argue on the ability of other people to call us on our racism. ## That Is All
