this, in a word, sucks. the whole premise, and promise, of Facebook and other social media platforms is that social metrics, not economics, would drive the distribution of content. that appears to be out the window, at least for Facebook. once again its the almighty dollar that will rule the roost. we all know that Facebooks social metrics are highly corruptible, but that doesnt mean the concept should be abandoned. there are smart ways to improve the formula and reduce and / or eliminate unwelcome influencers, and fair ways to commodify its product (see wikipedia). Facebook appears content, instead, to transform its revolutionary concept that democratized distribution into just a means of commodifying its user base to please its shareholders. i can only hope there will be a backlash that will either push Facebook back to its roots or lead an exodus to other platforms. im sure Facebook thinks its too big to be abandoned. yeah, well, myspace thought that too. who? exactly. time/34025/the-free-marketing-gravy-train-is-over-on-facebook/
