And it is very much an extension of The Great Game..the West and Russia, still struggling for Asia after all these years. Assad was blocking a Qatar-Turkey pipeline, saying it would hurt Russias interests. He later proposed an Iran-Iraq-Syria pipeline that would go under the Mediterranean, bypassing Turkey. If you think about it, the West has been doing everything it can to prevent cooperation between the Shiite Crescent countries for decades. Once they want to work together on a peaceful and lucrative project they come under attack from their Sunni minorities? This quote more or less explains Erdogans game here (FINALLY!) In Ankaras worldview, nothing can stand in the way of its dream of becoming the ultimate energy bridge between East and West. That implies an extremely complex relationship with no fewer than nine countries; Russia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt. Good luck with that, buddy.
