this is for my charlotte area friends. i just discovered the most amazing place, purely by accident . bob was looking at turntables on craigs list the other night just for grins and found a german stereo like the one his parents had, one his dad bought during the time he was in the military and brought home. bob was off today and we went to go look at it-it is on the back side of monroe. what we found was incredible. darlene lives at Cera farms, a farm she and her husband started to do animal rescue. she was selling the stereo on craigs list to fund her farm. oh my GOODNESS. if you have children you MUST MAKE A FIELD TRIP HERE> darlene gave me a tour. she has peacocks and pheasants she raises for the eggs and feathers. she has laying chickens. other than that she has rescued a few exotic birds, some cats, 8 dogs. she has rescue horses and a mule. she has a rescue goat and she has 2 3 month other rescue foals. their mom was a mare who was separated from them at birth because she is used to nurse thoroughbreds. normally her own babies are just left to die. she is waiting on a few horses who are coming to her from animal crusty charges. she has a rescue hog and pot bellied pig. the farm is charming and just 30 minutes from matthews and WELL WORTH A DAY TRIP. i will be going back with the children. she doesnt really have school kids come through-guess she isnt on anyones radar. all of her animals are gentle and once she did a Y day camp from inner-city kids for a week. she has miniature horses and the kids were allowed to fingerprint the horses!
