this is the email I sent Russell Brand at his Trews Channel. Dear Russell, I am a club circuit headline stand-up comic in Canada, and (God willing) will have 5 years sober on Dec27, 2014. I have found your willingness to be honest about your own struggles with addiction, and your thoughtful writing about Amy Winehouse and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, to be refreshingly compassionate and humbly accurate. Early in recovery, I was sleepless in a hotel in Calgary in the dead of winter, and I heard you talking about recovery to Larry King on the television, and it got me through a long fearful night and to a gathering of addicts the next morning. My sobriety continues to this day. I now revel in you words of revolution, and am grateful to see some actual integrity in stand-up - which lately seems full of untreated addicts, premature death and longstanding abuse. Thank you for drawing attention to the inequality of the free world, and encouraging your fans to take the fight to local communities where we can make a difference. Personally I would again like to thank you for undermining the stigma of addiction by speaking so openly about it. For me, that act was life saving. Thanks mate, Richard Glen Lett.
