this may be the first but it wont be the last of my soapboxes and harassment... today, after school, one of my former students that went to france and spain last spring was casually discussing a conversation he had in his bard early college class on city planning and public transportation. he was able to impress his professor when he cited his experience with the paris metro system and the barcelona tramways and academically compared the way in which the system of transportation is structured to new orleans and what is culturally and logistically possible where. also today, another former LW student posted a throwback thursday picture of herself near the lock bridge in paris on instagram, stating how it was always one of my dreams to go here. this experience for them was beyond life-changing, and many of the current college freshman that went on this trip are now working to build studying abroad into their 4 year plan. with that being said, we are going for round 2, and trying to take 15 students to france and spain again on a 14 day trip this spring. I admittedly tend to be cynical about many things, but I REALLY believe in my heart, mind, and soul, in the trajectory and mentality changing power of this experience. I truly believe that this is a tangible way to create an opportunity for my students that will allow them to value travel and the feeling of wanderlust, world language learning, cultural competency and global citizenship. while there is a lot that I still need to add to the website, including many of the student blurbs, and we have already started and will be continuing to work throughout the year to fundraise, this is a VERY impressive group of students BOTH inside and outside of the classroom, and any support that we can get to help defray the costs and get them there would be much appreciated. this opportunity is so important and truly gives my students the necessary push that someone once gave me to explore, as well as the competitive edge that is so critical in this increasingly flat world. please consider passing this along to spread the word, donating even a seemingly small amount, or even passing along information about any grants or other resources you may be aware of so we can make this happen for even more students. merci
