this might be a weird post, but hey, I feel like its worth sharing. I have been competing in the CCS since I have been in college (2010/2011). To me, its not just about going and climbing against other schools to see who is the best. Its a chance to see friends who I only get to see one time a year. Its about visiting new places and experiencing new things and making new friends. This year I unfortunately completely forgot about the rule change about needing to participate in a local competition and regionals to qualify for nationals. I recently opened up a bouldering gym and that has been taking up all of my time. We even hosted CCS Regionals last weekend (which was amazing, 80 competitors!). Im sad to say that I dont qualify to compete at the national competition. However, Im buying my plane ticket to head out to Melbourne just to hang out and watch the comp/ help out if im needed. Whoever wins or loses these competitions in the grand scheme of things doesnt matter, what does matter is the connections and friendships we make during these events. Everyone thats heading out to Florida in a few weeks, I look forward to seeing you all and hope that this national event is one to remember. For those of you competing, the best of luck to you and those of you organizing and hosting the event, thank you for your time and effort. These events are stressful to run and I truly appreciate everything you do to make the event run smoothly. Thank you John Myrick for creating the CCS, without it, I wouldnt have met some of the amazing people that are in my life.
