this...my friends...is an album I havent listened to in eons...but turned into one of those magical moments when I could still recall all the songs--the tinkling upright piano, the organ (another piece of weatherbeaten furniture you can tell just by listening) the caterwauling vocals, the wheeling theatrical lyrics hinting somewhat of their early signature nautical themes...the stinging bottleneck fuzz guitar you would never imagine could be Robin Trower in his early days. All right in the thick of it in the year Caravan did their debut, Jethro Tull and Genesis were just barely entering the picture, and when Family released the brilliant Dollhouse LP. Im telling you, right in the thick of it. Such a groundbreaking masterpiece this album was...and still is. It just dropped me to my knees where I stood, and upwelled my emotions to a flood of tears from its beauty: I present to you the second album from one of Britains finest: Procol Harum - Shine On Brightly [Full album, 1968]
