this project is super amazing but the people running it have no money and need some to keep the phones on. if you or anybody has money to spare, this would go directly toward people who need it. Stories from South Central is first and foremost a power-building campaign for prisoners affected by the MCHM spill this January—but part of amplifying voices is providing baseline support for those who need it. The friends and family of prisoners pay exorbitant rates (up to $3.00/call) to accept phone calls from within the jail, and are often unable to afford them. That is why we maintain a phone line and take inmate calls at all hours of the day, allowing us to facilitate communication between prisoners and their loved ones, attorneys, parole offices and more.
