this was interesting today. guy on the left is the volunteer at the Columbus Railroad Depot Museum and he is an Anglo, The guy on the right is Mexican, but American Citizen and Vietnam combat veteran. He was visiting the museum with his son , who was visiting from Mexico. There is much about Pancho Villa in the museum. So these 2 gentlemen got into a pretty interesting and stimulating conversation about which history is correct regarding the Pancho Villa raid on Columbus in 1916. The Mexican gentlemens grandfather RODE with Pancho Villa, so he had an eyewitness account if you will. He said his version was the Mexican version of history and it was the correct version, and that the Anglo version was incorrect. The Anglo insisted that the Anglo version of the history is correct. I know there is much revisionist history, especially about the Old West. After 98 years, its interesting that its still being debated. Oh one more thing, the Anglo guy said Pancho Villas men killed 85 Americans, both soldiers from Pershings Army who tried to defend Columbus when Pancho Villa attacked and Columbus civilian residents. The Mexican gentlemen said they only killed 19. So, I really enjoyed listening to them. I didnt really know squat about the raid, all I knew was Pancho Villa kicked some American butt because he was furious at Woodrow Wilson for his pro-Mexican Government, anti-Mexican Revolution politics. Side note, in 2016, they will remember the Pancho Villa raid with much fanfare over a 3 day period. They will even have some of the World War II biplanes there. They are trying to get the Blue Angels to fly over also. Its supposed to be a really big deal. They are even building an airfield for World War II biplanes. I never realized that the U.S. Army had biplanes stationed at Columbus and actually flew into Mexico looking for Pancho Villa. interesting stuff. I am happy I stopped by there today. :)
