this would be the modern day mount rushmore of bluegrass music..the players here featured are all worthy of their place in history. i have dabbled in the genre of bluegrass it has been an interest of mine since discovering Doc Watson and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Bands classic record Will The Circle be Unbroken way back when. Whenever I see Sam Bush pick a mandolin I wonder how it was that I came to have him on my record. I will describe how it came to pass. My co-producer with Andy Dee for my 5th album Chris Zann back in 2008 had Sams cell phone number and asked him if he would be into it. To my astonishment Sam said YES. We drove down to Nashville and had rented a room at a motel in Brentwood TN. We actually got a discount on the room because the hotel owners were fans of mister Bush. He ended up playing mandolin and fiddle on 7 of the 13 songs featured on Tavern Puzzles. After the session he said that I had a friend for life and that he loved my songs. Alas I have not seen him since. So where ever you are mister Sam Bush..Thank you for slumming that session and I still remember most of the jokes you told me.
