three days ago i got a call from kolkata and someone told me "bhai 18g park street shuts down".... almost 4K sqft, a frontage of more than 80ft, the grand yellow lights, the feel of music inside, the joyous pujas, the thriving decembers.... Probably around 2004 or 2005, in the pujoshankhya of ANANDAMELA came out the comics of Feluda and in one of the pictures showed the park street crossing and the image of Music World. I worked there, I took the book to then regional manager Lalita Sinha and showed her ..... we knew the brand has been established in less than five years of its birth. it became one of the most popular landmarks in kolkata, meeting point for teenagers, the traffic jam in park street when came Aamir khan / Hrithik Roshan / and many many more. The entire team worked not just as colleagues of one another but 1 BIG family and so knew about it the people from Sony, Universal, Reliance, Disney, Times, Saregama HMV and many more..... we may have moved on in our lives.... but the heart stayed there.... my apologies that i couldnt write about it in the last two days.... frankly i cldnt... then i thought i should... it was a platform which laid the foundations in the careers of few people who went on to be successful in their lives..... considering the industry situation it is a tough call but expected probability.... My question why? it can be shrunk down.... but why close it.... ????? most importantly, beyond the business and profitability factor, it is a cultural heritage in kolkata....
