time to retire my iphone 4. weve been through so much together. ive dropped you on carpet, on tile, on concrete, in urinals, in trash cans, in the space between the drivers seat and the center console, under my car, and behind my bed countless times. youve taken tons of pictures, although lately its taken you 20 seconds just to load the camera app. weve been through so many cases together, most of them managing to break in some way. ive never lost you, ive never cracked your screen. i once had a screen protector on you, but then you kept reminding me that you dont like to use protection and it just doesnt feel as good, so i peeled it off. youve shown me things that no one else could, you had the answers when I was too lazy to get up to go to an actual computer. youve helped me navigate through los angeles, and have only gotten me lost a few times, i can live with that. ive played games on you, tons on games. remember when words with friends was a thing? yeah.. good times. you were there for that, you were there iphone 4. i used to take better care of you, i used to carefully set you down, make sure to fully discharge your battery before charging it again to preserve your battery lifespan, i used to not let other people use you, with their dirty, grubby fingers and their clumsy selves. but now, our journey will come to an end. in a week im going to get the iphone 6. its bigger, faster, and has 4 times as much storage capacity as you do. but you know what? it will never have the same bond that we had. sure it has a way better camera, and touch ID so maybe i wont actually wear out the home button this time, and its thinner and lighter too, but its not about any of that. its about the bond weve built together. and to properly thank you for it, instead of letting you sit in a drawer somewhere and collect dust, im going to sell you to verizon for a $200 gift card. partly because I want that $200 gift card, but also because i hope that youll get resold and find a new home and continue to make new memories, maybe with some less fortunate child in ecuador. I hear the weather is nice over there, maybe youll to sit in someones pocket while they lay in a hammock. doesnt sound nice? anyway, iphone 4, thank you again. youve given me more than I could have asked for. its time we both move on, but just know that youll always my first smartphone, and no other iphone can take that away from you
