tips for Breastfeeding in a carrier. ♡dress for the occasion- a top that will need to be lifted up will make things difficult, so opt for one you can pull down and a bra that will help hold you up (big breasted ladies or ones who have met gravity) ♡the easiest way to fee bub in a carrier is with them in an upright position. you simply loosen the shoulders/straps/wrap/rings and lower bub down to around breast height ( or the height they would sit in a supportive bra) ♡I find that the breast and bubs head (if bub if younger) will both need support and guidance into the right position. They dont tend to have super suction in the early days and you will need to be mindful that some movements like hanging the washing may cause bub to loose their latch. When first starting I suggest doing it in front of a mirror or just standing still. ♡The next thing you need to think about is keeping the breast in place. I find a regular bra pulled down gets good position and support but some ladies may only need their shirt to hold things in place while others may need a rolled baby swaddle or even a hand towel, but some people feel more comfortable holding the breast in place the entire time. ♡For some people being discreet is quite important. some features and tips you may find useful are; soft structured carriers have sleep hoods that cover things up, ringslings have tails that can be used like a feeding cover and wraps have rails that can be pulled over. if your carrier doesnt fall into one of these catagories you can tuck a swaddle wrap into your shirt or the shoulder strap of the carrier and use it as a feeing cover. ♡ A couple of things to keep in mind is that the position used to feed bub is not close enough to kiss, so care should be taken to constantly monitor that their airways are clear and unobstructed.
