I am currently running as the sole candidate for the (1) University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) seat as a Board of Director on The Varsity, Canadas largest newspaper. My platform is simple yet needed: I plan to strengthen the relationship between The Varsity and UTSC which goes both ways; this means increasing coverage of UTSC into The Varsity and to generate more readership at UTSC. ____________________________________________________________ You: So what? Me: - To make the most out the $41,000 to have your voices heard. - To inform you of tri-campus resources and knowledge. - To create change at the systemic level with the UofT voice in solidarity. ____________________________________________________________ You: So what makes you the best candidate? Me: a) I dont play pretend. In my first year, I co-founded TEDxUTSC with the vision of instilling a sense of pride among students, staff, faculty, alumni and fellow students alike. What this means: I have a track record of creating a platform for revealing untold stories. b) I can identify with fellow UTSC students. I am a co-op student, commute to UTSC everyday to achieve a world-class education, and literally raised by the world by immigrant parents who have lived all over. What this means: Your concerns are my concerns. c) I am pursuing relevant experiences which would strengthen my journalistic skills. I am starting up a cross-disciplinary mental health magazine at UTSC called Minds Matter Magazine with the vision of humanizing the notions of mental illnesses and disorders. I am taking JOUA01 and JOUA02, Introduction to Journalism I and II, which is BTW, exclusive to the UTSC campus. (Ha, take that St. George and UTM!). What this means: I have access to journalistic resources both general and mental health-related that would benefit The Varsity.
