to reach more readers I am posting this as a post rather than a response which it really is,,A lot of questions about how to : or where can I learn : etc,, before we made our first jump , to the fringes of the grid, ( we had a garden hose and an extension cord, so we were not OFF the grid,,,I spent several years reading,,your local library is your best resource if you have one, I was traveling working on military bases while we where preparing MENTALLY for the move, it was our intentions to go off the grid to about 90 % I didnt want to screw around with keeping food from spoiling,,I wanted refrigeration, and a little bit of electric light, enough to read by, now an rv camper is lit by automotive tail light bulbs and that system can provide plenty of light without standard power, and you could rip the guts out of a junk car and get nearly everything for free, but keepin my milk cold, was not an option for me,,, there are books on tiny houses, raising livestock, square foot gardening,, etc,,,anything you need,,,EXCEPT , if you are a realist, know this,, milk and honey is a myth, milk sours and honey draws flys,, I have not seen a book yet about how to develop the mental state required cope with ,,,discomfort, inconvenience, inconsistent temperatures , the pleasant aroma of a fresh out house,, there is a certain level of mental frame of mind that is crucial, some people have a dream and others just love the thought of the dream but cant actually cope with the patience portion,,,if you go camping,,and it rains, If that rain spoils your weekend,,,,you might only love the dream ! but if you still have a great weekend,ONLY you where wet !! then you are one that lives the dream !! no matter which you are reading and learning is critcal just to give a better idea of what you are getting into,,and where and when It ends,,,small houses are small,,, you cant take everything with you,,so if it doesnt serve a specific purpose,, get rid of it, ( even if it was your grandmas ,, maybe she was a hoarder too ! ) . I only touched on a small portion of topics, but I think mental state and patience are some of the most important to doing this successfully ,,,
