today I be joining peers and like minds at the iHub - Nairobi’s Innovation Hub to close down the project Uchaguzi Kenya 2013. Over the years, we have managed with fair success to bring citizen driven transparency and accountability to elections in Africa. While citizen participation is an important part of ensuring credibility of elections, the bigger challenge still lingers - its high end manipulation, vested motives and the quality of leadership in Africa. Kenya, Uganda and Zimbabwe are countries where we have deployed transparency platforms like Uchaguzi. In as much as these platforms have given citizens the ability to voice their observations in these countries, the striking similarity is that end result of the electoral process - whether, free, fair, credible or transparent, was deeply rooted on manipulations that safeguarded an ecosystem of interests. Whereas the international community strives to inculcate concepts such as democracy, transparency and you name it, at the end of the day, I am convinced that, Its only Africa that will solve her own problems, including greed and that primitive energy that was spotted by Korea.
