today is eid al adha...i have wished some of my friends...but i would like you(muslim, christian or jewish -as all 3 religions believe in this...although as usual, they cant agree on the facts of the incident..) to ponder on this: this day is celebrated for Abrahams willingness to sacrifice(kill) his son to please god, which if it was attempted today would result in immediate arrest, a jail sentence and public outcry (oddly by the religious themselves probably) in all democratic countries and result in punishment by modern legal standards(democratic or otherwise). The religious claim that it was only a harmless test of Abrahams faith...which also makes no sense for an all powerful all knowing god who could have known, by definition, everything Abraham was thinking or doing before and after he ever did(since God knows ALL and doest need to test people to know). If the story had ended this way, it would have been....well, disgusting. But religion being what it is, decides to make things worse (no surprise there). Abraham goes on to catch hold of a very unfortunate ram, and slayed the innocent helpless creature instead. So, on top of attempted human sacrifice, theres the charge of animal cruelty (murder really...)...and remember this was all to PLEASE God!.... I would like to post this quote - Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.- by Steven Weinberg. I do not think I will be able to wish anyone else anymore for a day that celebrates human sacrifice and animal cruelty without destroying a part of my humanity. Sorry...but not really!
