today marks Rorys (new leopard geckos) third day of living here in this new environment, and hes mainly hid inside his little toy cave in his tank. apparently thats an expected and normal reaction, leopard geckos can even take up to a week or more to adjust to their new surroundings and new owner. ive been trying to give him space, but ive also been checking on him here and there, using a soft and soothing tone of voice, trying to offer him food, coax him out of his hiding place, and hes been very hesitant. up until this morning, when i saw some progress. :) he hadnt been eating much within these past few days so i was concerned, i opened the tank lid, and offered him 6 meal worms total, and he slowly creeped out of his hiding place, ate each one that i offered him by hand, and even let me softly stroke his head a few times before going back to his cave. this may seem small but its HUGE to me because based on readings and what ive heard from pet stores, youre lucky to get a leopard gecko to eat within a few days in a new setting. im so happy to see him getting more comfortable.
